IRDL is proud to host the book launch event for DIGITAL PLAYGROUNDS: The Hidden Politics of Children’s Online Playspaces, Virtual Worlds, and Connected Games, by Sara M. Grimes, with respondents, Janet Seow, PhD Candidate and Patrick Dolan, PhD Candidate.
Digital Playgrounds revisits key developments that have unfolded in children’s online games and connected digital play spaces over the past two decades, providing a comparative synthesis and critical analysis of major findings emerging from the numerous studies the author, Dr. Sara M. Grimes (University of Toronto), has conducted on the topic since 2003. It makes the empirically and theoretically argument that online games now play a uniquely meaningful and far-reaching role in children’s lives, with profound implications for children’s culture, agency, and rights in the digital era.
